Oscar nomination voting deadline extended to January 4

  • The deadline for voting for this year's Oscar nominations has been extended after some academy members reported problems with a new online voting system.

Some of the 6,000 members were unable to log on to the voting website while others said they found it confusing.

Organizers have extended the deadline by 24 hours to January 4.

This is the first time that electronic voting will be used.

The decision to use electronic voting process for the 85th Oscars comes after extensive research and consultations with its members.

In the past, Oscar ballots have been mailed to the Academy's global members with the results recorded by hand by accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Academy Awards take place in Hollywood, California on February 24.
