Oscar auction leads to lawsuit

  • The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is taking legal recourse over the selling of art director Joseph Wright’s Oscar, as per media reports.

Wright, who won the Oscar for the 1942 film My Gal Sal, died in 1985. Last month his family sold the Oscar statuette for $79,200 in an auction.

The Academy is seeking damages of over $79,200 along with punitive damages.

Wright had won another Oscar for the 1942 movie This Above All.
