Ornette Coleman, American musician who pioneered new form of jazz, dies at 85

Ornette Coleman, an influential jazz musician, has died aged 85.
Born in Texas, he began his career in the fifties and was a pioneer of a style of jazz that was called “free jazz.”
His album ‘The Shape of Jazz to Come’ is widely regarded as one of the most important jazz records in the history of the genre.
Coleman's form of improvisation met with resistance initially, but later became an integral part of jazz as well as rock.
