Louis Zamperini, athlete, officer, and legend, dies at 97

  • Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete and American officer during World War 2, who was tortured in Japanese POW camps, died at age 97.

    Universal Pictures is making a film on Zamperini life, based on Unbroken, author Laura Hillenbrand’s book on the American legend. 

    In a statement the Zamperini family said: “After a 40-day long battle for his life, he peacefully passed away in the presence of his entire family, leaving behind a legacy that has touched so many lives.”
