Louis Zamperini, athlete, officer, and legend, dies at 97

Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete and American officer during World War 2, who was tortured in Japanese POW camps, died at age 97.
Universal Pictures is making a film on Zamperini life, based on Unbroken, author Laura Hillenbrand’s book on the American legend.
In a statement the Zamperini family said: “After a 40-day long battle for his life, he peacefully passed away in the presence of his entire family, leaving behind a legacy that has touched so many lives.”
