Andrey Zvyagintsev’s ‘Leviathan’, a film that depicts life and corruption in a Russian town, has won the best film award at the London film festival.
The president of the official competition jury Jeremy Thomas said the film’s “grandeur and themes” had moved the jury and ‘Leviathan’ was a unanimous choice for the award.
The Grierson award for the best documentary went to ‘Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait’, described by the jury as an “unflinching and poetic” work.
