American TV host Jay Leno has volunteered to take a pay cut to save the jobs of other employees working on his popular late night talk show The Tonight Show.
Around 20 staff reportedly lost their jobs on Friday in a bid to lower the show’s costs.
The move is part of broadcaster NBC’s restructuring program that will see the show's weekly production budget, which is estimated to be $2.3 million, drop to $1.7million.
"Jay's foremost concern is for the wonderful people who work with him at The Tonight Show," said a spokesman for Leno.
According to media reports, Leno’s salary could be reduced by around $5 million to $20 million. Other senior staff also reportedly agreed to pay cuts.
