Ja Rule released from prison

  • American rapper Ja Rule was released from prison on Tuesday after serving a two year sentence for gun and tax evasion charges.

    Ja Rule was released from a federal prison in Ray Brook, New York.

    However, he will remain under house arrest until July 28.

    The 37-year-old was sentenced to 28 months after failing to pay $1.1 million in taxes between 2004 and 2008 and two years for possessing a semi-automatic handgun.

    He was able to carry out both sentences at the same time.

    Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, topped the charts with his albums Rule 3:36 and Pain is Love in 2000 and 2001 respectively.

    He also scored two U.S. Billboard number ones with his collaborations with Jennifer Lopez on the songs I'm Real and Ain't It Funny.
