George Lucas names studio successor

  • Star Wars director George Lucas has named his successor for his Lucasfilm studio as he prepares to step down.

Lucas, 68, launched the studio in 1971. He will hand over to Kathleen Kennedy, who has produced films including Jurassic Park and The Sixth Sense.

The studio’s first release was the science fiction film THX 1138.

Lucas made his name with Star Wars in 1977, which went on to become the highest-earning film of all time.

He has said he is unlikely to stop making movies but will instead focus on art-house films.
