Gangnam Style scoops top song prize at 'K-pop Grammys'

  • South Korean rapper Psy's viral hit Gangnam Style won the prize for top song on Wednesday at the 27th annual Golden Disk Awards, a Korean pop event known as the "Korean Grammys."

    The two-day ceremony was held in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lampur.

    Gangnam Style was released in July and pokes fun at the materialistic culture of South Korea, particularly in relation to the Gangnam section of Seoul, which Psy has likened to Beverly Hills.

    The track emerged as a global phenomenon and made history last month when it became the first video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views.
