Fox changes name of movie in light of Trayvon Martin's death
May 6 , 2012
20th Century Fox has changed the title of an upcoming summer comedy Neighbourhood Watch in light of the racially charged shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin.
The studio has changed the title to The Watch.
In March, Fox removed a trailer and posters depicting a figure in the shadows following national outcry over neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman’s shooting of Martin in Florida.
Initially, Zimmerman was not charged due to a state law that allows people to use deadly force if they feel their life is at risk. He was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder and now awaits trial.
The Watch stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah and releases in the U.S. on July 27.
