First Superman comic from 1938 sells for $3.2m

  • A well-preserved copy of the first Superman comic book was sold for a record $3.2m, according to media reports.

The comic, called Action Comics #1, cost 10 cents when it first came to the US market — in 1938.

About 50 originals are believed to have survived; this was the best among the lot, reports said.

It was bought by Metropolis Comics, dealers based in New York. They were quoted as saying that the chance to own the first Superman comic was “just too good” to pass by.
