First gay couple shown on Disney Channel
January 30 , 2014
The Disney Channel debuted its first gay couple: A lesbian couple on the show Good Luck Charlie met with the main characters, who were confused about who their daughter's friend's mother was. They eventually realized that the child had two mothers.
Not everybody is happy about the move. "Just because something may be legal or because some are choosing a lifestyle doesn't make it morally correct," One Million Moms stated. "Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda."
Moreover, Matthew Tharrett of On Queerty doesn't believe that Disney did the right thing by making the gay couple the punchline of a joke in order to "reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."
