'Fifty Shades of Grey' storms North American box office with $81.7mn debut

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, the film adaption of EL James’ novel by the same name, made an impressive debut at the North American box office, earning $81.7 million.
The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.
More than two-third of the audience across North America was female, Universal Pictures said.
‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ was a distant second at the box office, earning an estimated $35.6 million. Animation film ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water’ came third, with a weekend earning of $30.5 million.
