Dick Van Dyke to be honored with SAG career award

  • Veteran entertainer Dick Van Dyke is to receive a life achievement award at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards next January.

The Life Achievement Award honors both career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment

"Dick is the consummate entertainer, an enormously talented performer whose work has crossed nearly every major category of entertainment," said SAG's Ken Howard.

The Missouri-born actor, singer, writer and comedian starred in the 1960s sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show and 1980s TV series Diagnosis: Murder. He is also known for his role as cockney chimney sweep Bert in the Mary Poppins musical.

Over a career spanning six decades, the 86-year-old has won five Emmys, a Tony Award and a Grammy.

The 19th Annual SAG Awards ceremony will take place on January 27.
