Despicable Me 2 has topped the U.S. box office beating Johnny Depp's The Lone Ranger.
The Universal Pictures animated sequel earned $82.5 million over the weekend.
Despicable Me 2 stars Steve Carell as a villain who turns into a stay-at-home dad.
Meanwhile, Disney's Lone Ranger, starring Depp as Tonto in a remake of the radio and TV series made just $29.5 million.
The film, which cost $225 million to make, received poor reviews.
