British actors win top prizes at Tony theater awards

  • Dame Helen Mirren has bagged the best actress prize for her role in 'The Audience', at the Tony  Awards.

    The British actress won the award in New York for portraying the Queen in the play. Dame Helen has previously won a Best Actress Oscar in 2006 for the film ‘The Queen’.

    Meanwhile, British actor Alex Sharp was named best actor and Marianne Elliott won the best director prize for the play 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.'

    The Curious Incident also got the best play prize.
