June 10 , 2013
Author Iain Banks has passed away at the age of 59, his family said on Sunday.
His death comes two months after he announced he had terminal gall bladder cancer.
Banks, who was born in Fife, Scotland, was best known for his novels The Wasp Factory, The Crow Road and Complicity.
His publisher, Little Brown Book Group, said he was "an irreplaceable part of the literary world".
In April, Banks requested his publishers to push forward the release of his latest novel, The Quarry, so he could be there for its launch.
The book, due to be released on June 20, describes the final weeks of a man suffering from terminal cancer.
