June 3 , 2013
Angelina Jolie made her first public appearance on Sunday since announcing her double mastectomy.
The Hollywood actress joined her fiancé Brad Pitt on the red carpet in London for his latest film World War Z, an adaptation of Max Brooks' 2006 zombie apocalyptic novel.
Last month, Jolie revealed she chose to have a double mastectomy to reduce the risk of getting cancer.
In an article, titled "My Medical Choice", for the New York Times, Jolie said her doctors believed she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer.
She added that Pitt had hailed her decision as "absolutely heroic".
The 37-year-old mother of six went on to write that she went through the procedure to reassure her children that she would not die from cancer, as her own mother did.
Last week, Jolie’s aunt, Debbie Martin, died due to breast cancer.
