Academy throws Oscar voting open to all members
May 5 , 2013
In its first ever general meeting, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced plans to enhance the involvement of members in Oscar voting by allowing all members to vote in the Foreign Language Film and Documentary Shorts category.
The announcement came at the meeting held in Beverly Hills at the Goldwyn Theater and simultaneously telecast at Emeryville in California, and at New York City. The academy's board of governors also went ahead to approve the viewing of the nominated documentary pieces either at the special theatrical screening or on a DVD. The nomination processes, however, will not change.
The announcement was appreciated obstreperously by all Academy members who also appreciated the informal town-hall like meeting, another first.
