2012 Turner Prize shortlist announced

  • Four British artists have been shortlisted for this year’s $40,550 Turner Prize.

Two filmmakers, a performance artist and a classic illustrator have been chosen to contest the prize.

The four artists named were Lali “Spartacus” Chetwynd, Luke Fowler, Paul Noble and Elizabeth Price.

The Turner Prize is awarded to a British artist under the age of 50 and one who is considered to have put on the best exhibition over the last year.

The winner will be announced at London’s Tate Britain museum on December 3.

Last year’s prize was won by sculptor Martin Boyce, whose previous works include artificial trees and a leaning litter bin.

The Turner Prize was first awarded in 1984; previous recipients include Damien Hirst, Steve McQueen and Antony Gormley.
