Zappos to get rid of company hierarchy
December 31 , 2013
CEO Tony Hsieh of Zappos said the company is getting rid of its hierarchy and explained to the employees that it was moving toward "Holocracy."
The term means self-government, under which Zappos would be divided into about 400 circles and each worker can have several jobs.
A worker at the company mentioned that the system won't be "leaderless" and "there are certainly those who hold a bigger scope of purpose for the organization than others," he said. "What it does do is distribute leadership into each role."
Publishing platform Medium notes that the system does have its downsides since it's not a "very human-centric model for things" and it may become hard to ask for help or feedback.
