We are all responsible for the Target breach
January 13 , 2014
Customers should learn a lesson from the Target data breach, which ended up affecting one-third of the nation's grown-up population. It's essential to think twice before giving out your phone number, email address and other similar information to companies. Why? Because no store needs such information to sell you anything.
These companies shouldn't be held completely responsible for such hacks because somewhere along the lines, us customers are to be blamed as well.
"We regularly hand over data simply because we're politely asked," Nicole Perlroth writes in the New York Times. "And we don't stop doing business with companies that don't take data protection seriously."
Customers are probably wary of shopping at Target right now but they will soon begin to give out their information to companies once again, forgetting that no company is secure.
