Walmart wants same policy for all states

Walmart workers' health care benefits are being extended to their domestic partners irrespective of whether they are same or opposite sex. Walmart has been long attacked by labor groups because of their wages and benefits. It says the changes were made in order to have the same policy in all 50 states.
Walmart has its own definition of what a domestic partnership is since some states define it differently.
Married partners of the same or opposite gender, or even those that are not married but have been sharing a household since 12 months and intend on continuing to do so are all included in the definition. The relationship between the unmarried partners has to be exclusive and none of them can be married to anyone else.
A Walmart spokesman said "the move follows June's Supreme Court decision to overturn a 1996 law that denied federal benefits to legally married same-sex couples.
