Walmart announces wage hike for 500,000 employees
February 20 , 2015
Walmart will raise the wages of over 500,000 of its employees at its American stores, the retail giant has announced. As per media reports, it said it would increase salaries for 40% of employees, and hike the base wage to $9, which is $1.75 more than the minimum wage in the US. All current hourly staff will earn a minimum of $10 per hour by February next year.
Chief executive Doug McMillon admitted in a blogpost that some changes introduced by Walmart in the past to increase efficiency and productivity had “undermined the feeling of ownership” of some employees.
