Vestas wind turbine firm to shed further 1,400 jobs

  • Danish wind turbine firm Vestas is to shed a further 1,400 jobs as it prepares for a drop in business next year due to slowing demand.

The company has already cut its forecasts for the shipments of turbines this year.

Earlier this year, Vestas announced it would cut 2,335 jobs during 2012.

The latest job cuts will reduce Vestas' total workforce to 19,000 and generate an extra $125 million in savings.

Vestas said that it expects more than half of the cuts to be made in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 25 percent in the Asia Pacific region and around 20 percent in the Americas.
