US: Toymaker Mattel's sales continue to fall as interest in Barbie diminishes

  • Diminishing interest in the Barbie doll has led to another drop in sales for US toymaker Mattel.

While net sales were down by 2.5% in the first quarter of this year compared to a year ago, worldwide Barbie sales dropped 14%. This is the sixth straight quarter when sales have fallen.

Mattel’s net loss has increased to $58.2 million.

Christopher Sinclair, who recently took over as chief executive, said that the company was “making the changes necessary to perform better in the future.”
