US oil price drops below $50 threshold

  • The American oil price dropped below the $50 per barrel mark, before it finished the day at $50.05, on Monday.

This is the first time it fell below the $50 psychological threshold since April 2009. The Brent crude price also dipped to $53 on Monday, a fall of 6%.

Since the middle of last year, both indices have lost over half of their value. Some experts believe that oil prices are set to fall even further, worrying investors.
