July 4 , 2014
The American economy has added 288,000 jobs in June, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics have revealed.
The unemployment rate is down to 6.1%, the lowest in over five years.
The news brought cheer, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average crossing 17,000.
While professional and business services added 67,000 jobs, retail contributed 40,000 jobs.
The rate of labor force participation has remained steady, but long-term unemployment continues to be a matter of concern.
