US economy: 295,000 jobs added in February

  • The US economy added 295,000 jobs last month, and unemployment dropped from 5.7% to 5.5%, official data reveal.

    February was the 12th successive month in which the world’s largest economy added over 200,000 jobs, the longest such run in more than two decades.

    Job gains were spread across diverse sectors including health care, construction and transport, figures by the labor department show.

    Meanwhile, the figure for jobs added in January has been revised to 239,000, down from the earlier 257,000.
