United Express flight makes emergency landing

  • A plane on its way to Pittsburgh made an emergency landing at Newark International Airport Thursday morning. This happened a little while after the plane took off when the crew detected the smell of smoke in the cabin.

The smoke reportedly began by the lavatories, according to Republic Airways spokesman Peter Kowalchuk. The flight returned back to its origin about 45 minutes after departure and all passengers were made to evacuate for security reasons.

The plane was then towed back to the terminal for inspection. There were no injuries during the incident.
