UK's G4S makes military donation following Olympic failure
August 13 , 2012
Security firm G4S is to donate $3.9 million to British military sports and welfare organizations as a show of gratitude to troops who stepped in to protect Olympic venues after it failed to provide enough guards.
G4S was unable to provide all of the promised 10,400 guards for the two-week sporting event, which ended on Sunday.
An additional 4,700 military personnel joined 13,500 troops already earmarked for venue security following G4S's last-minute admission.
G4S Chief Executive Nick Buckles has said the firm stands to lose up to $78 million on the Olympics security contract, worth $445 million. The group still expects to take its $89 million management fee from the Games.
