UK retailer Marks & Spencer posts 1.9% hike in clothing sales

  • UK retailer Marks & Spencer has posted a 1.9% increase in clothing sales for the three months ending March 28.

Meanwhile, general merchandising sales were up 0.7%, the firm’s best figures in almost four years. Food sales were also up by 0.7%.

But overall global sales fell 3.8%, a drop attributed mainly to the conflict in Ukraine and the struggling Russian economy, Marks & Spencer said.

Clothing sales got a boost by a great buzz around products such as the “iconic suede skirt”, the retailer said.
