Strong growth in Latin America boosts retailer Carrefour's sales

  • Carrefour has posted a 3.2% increase in underlying first quarter sales, exceeding analyst expectations.

    The French retailer registered total sales of $22.4 billion thanks to a good showing in Latin America. While like-for-like sales rose by 26.1% in Argentina, they were up 8.4% in Brazil, the company said.

    Meanwhile, sales in France increased 2.5%, but they dropped 13% in China. Carrefour attributed the China results to an environment that is “marked by frugal consumption”.
