Seattle Council approves $15 minimum wage
June 4 , 2014
The Seattle City Council passed an ordinance on Monday, June 2 that is expected to slowly increase the city's minimum wage to $15.
"This legislation sends a message heard around the world: Seattle wants to stop the race to the bottom in wages and that we deplore the growth in income inequality and the widening gap between the rich and the poor," a council member said.
The move has given three years to big businesses with over 500 employees to phase the increase and smaller ones have been given seven.
