Russia food ban: EU compensates growers of fruits, vegetables
August 19 , 2014
The European Commission has compensated fruit and vegetables growers impacted by Russia’s ban on western food products, by providing them with 125m euros in emergency funding, according to media reports.
The fund is meant to compensate for fresh produce such as peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers that won’t be sold — it will instead be provided to institutions such as hospitals and schools for free.
Moscow had imposed the food ban in response to sanctions imposed on Russia by the US and EU.
