Russia cuts gas exports to Poland
September 11 , 2014
Russia has slashed gas exports to Poland by up to 24%, raising fears in the west about Europe’s dependence on gas from Siberia in wake of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
PGNiG, Poland’s state energy group, has said it was not sure why Gazprom, the Kremlin-controlled energy firm, had cut volumes. Responding to the cuts, Poland halted reverse supplies of gas to Ukraine.
Despite the formal announcement of a ceasefire between Kiev and pro-Russian rebels, at the ground tension remains high in the conflict areas in eastern Ukraine.
