Qantas Airways cuts 500 maintenance jobs
May 21 , 2012
Australian airline Qantas has announced it will cut 500 jobs as it relocates its heavy maintenance and engineering departments out of Melbourne.
422 jobs will be cut at its site in Tullamarine in Melbourne and 113 posts at its Avalon operations in Victoria.
The move comes in a bid to cut costs following reports of falling profits.
In February, Qantas said its profits had fallen 83% in the six months to the end of December and announced plans to cut costs by $423 million.
