Primark to compensate Bangladesh building collapse victims
April 30 , 2013
British retailer Primark announced on Monday it is to compensate victims of the Bangladesh factory collapse who worked for its supplier.
Primark said its team in Bangladesh had been "working to put in place immediate and long-term help for victims of this disaster". It added it would also provide assistance for children who had lost their parents.
The collapse of the Rana Plaza garments factory in Savar, outside the capital Dhaka, killed at least 377 people.
The collapse has raised concerns over safety standards in Bangladesh’s garments industry. However, factory owners insist safety standards have improved in recent years.
Around 3,000 people are estimated to have been in the building when it collapsed. Some 2,430 are known to have survived.
