Obama to expand overtime pay
March 13 , 2014
President Obama is attempting to ensure overtime pay for workers who may not be eligible for getting any. All workers ranging from computer experts to fast-food managers are said to be "executive or professional," which means that their bosses can avoid their overtime pay.
However, "under current rules...you can spend 95 percent of the time sweeping floors and stocking shelves, and if you're responsible for supervising people five percent of the time, you can then be considered executive and be exempt," a liberal think tank rep said.
Some workers may not be eligible for receiving overtime if they make over $455 each week and Obama may increase the threshold but the amount is not clear as of yet.
"If they push through something to make a certain class of workers more expensive, something will have to adjust," a conservative who is opposed to the move said.
