NYPD Twitter campaign goes wrong
April 24 , 2014
A New York City Police Department campaign that aimed to encourage people to share photos of themselves with officers, didn't go so well. Instead of being photographed with friendly police officers, the hashtag became trending on the social media website and people began to report about arrests and people being shot.
"Free massages from the #NYPD," one tweet says, along with a photo of a cop pressing someone against a vehicle.
The NYPD mentioned that it's looking for new methods to communicate with the public and "Twitter provides an open forum for an uncensored exchange and this is an open dialogue good for our city."
