'Not possible for independent Scotland to join EU without central bank'

  • Olli Rehn, the former European Union commissioner for monetary union, has said it would “simply not be possible” for Scotland — if it chooses yes in the referendum — to join the EU using the pound minus a currency deal or a central bank of its own.

However, despite such warnings, the yes campaign continues to gather momentum, with latest polls indicating that support for independence was now at 47%. A 3% swing in the remaining two weeks before the poll could change the map of Britain.
