McDonald's to offer books with happy meals
October 13 , 2013
McDonald's is soon going to offer books along with its happy meals and an advocacy group is criticizing this announcement.
According to Corporate Accountability International, this is an attempt by the fast food chain to earn the goodwill of parents who are against the company marketing to children.
The company said it was planning on providing over 20M books to people in the U.S. in order to promote literacy. It's been attempting to change its image for a while and even announced that it would offer salads, juice and other healthy options with its meals.
One of the group members mentioned that the brand is "tricking kids and parents into thinking that McDonald's has their best interest in mind."
