Marissa Mayer fires company COO
January 17 , 2014
Marissa Mayer snatched away Henrique de Castro from Google 15 months ago and offered him a four-year-long package with an estimated $62 million. Looks like Mayer regretted the first big hire she made as the CEO since she fired de Castro for not being able to help Yahoo as much as she had hoped he would.
The news doesn't come as a shock to Kara Swisher of re/code since her sources at Yahoo revealed that de Castro was a "dead man walking," and had unhealthy relationships with the inner circle including the CEO.
Mayer mentioned to the staff in a memo that she had fired de Castro. She is unlikely to hire a replacement and Swisher noted that de Castro and Mayer didn't "get along and did not hide it at all."
