Man charges $35 for hand-sharpened pencil

  • The former political cartoonist, David Rees charges $35 for a hand-sharpened No. 2 pencil.

Rees discovered the art of sharpening the No. 2 after working with the 2010 Census and writing with the pencil all day. He has been able to sell 1,804 of them already and has also written a book on pencil sharpening, called "How to Sharpen Pencils".

He called the No. 2 pencils "cool and interesting" and mentioned that the point of the business is to "remind people to appreciate yellow pencils."

After two years of selling almost 2,000 pencils, Rees said "you do anything long enough for money, it just starts to become a job."
