Malaysia Airlines to lay off 6,000 employees: Reports

  • Malaysia Airlines is laying off around a third of its workforce as it implements a comprehensive restructuring plan to recover from last year’s twin tragedies involving the airline’s planes.

An estimated 6,000 of the 20,000 employees would be affected by the layoff, media reports say.

Chief executive Christoph Mueller, however, emphasized that the company’s operations were “very much in business as usual.”

Malaysia Airlines suffered a double blow in 2014 after flight MH370 mysteriously disappeared and flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine.
