Lufthansa pilots to go on strike following dispute over early retirement benefits
March 17 , 2015
The pilots at German national airline Lufthansa would go on a strike on Wednesday. According to media reports, this would seriously affect the airlines short and medium-haul flights. The strike is an immediate fallout of an ongoing dispute with the management of Lufthansa regarding its early retirement benefits and also the airlines' plans to expand its low-cost operations. Lufthansa has, in the past, been affected by a series of strikes. The strike is expected to affect flights throughout Germany. However, the pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit said in a statement that it will not affect the flights at Lufthansa’s budget units – Germanwings and Eurowings.
