'Layaway Santas' are on the rise this season
December 15 , 2013
'Layaway Santas' became a trend in the country in 2011, which appears to be on the rise this year.
The way this works is that Secret Santas pay the accounts of strangers at stores, which offer layaways. There have been 1,000 such cases in Walmart this year and reports suggest that Kmart and Toys 'R' Us offer it as well.
Employees at most of these stores know about these acts of kindness and they'd call customers and let them know the status of their gifts.
A New York man has begun soliciting donations through a bundling program and uses them to pay off accounts.
