Last-minute online sales are to blame for late UPS delivery
December 29 , 2013
UPS said it's too soon to be sure as to why Christmas gifts weren't delivered on time. However, Wall Street Journal noted that last-minute online shopping was much more this year and sales over the weekend before Christmas were 37 percent more than last year.
The increase came as customers were offered bigger discounts on the Saturday before Christmas as compared to Black Friday.
Retailers turned ground-shipping to air-shipping due to the rush and UPS couldn't keep with with the air service.
"It's easy to blame UPS, but it's the retailers that are pushing these next-day shipping offers in the final hours of the shopping season," an expert said.
