Investigators call for airlines to check emergency beacons
July 19 , 2013
The cause of fire on the Ethopian Airways aircraft that led to the Heathrow airport shutting down for 90 minutes has been located. It is said to have started near the plane's Emergency Locator Transmitter, which is a device used by rescuers to locate the plane in case of unusual landings, for example. The cause could have been last week's short circuiting.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch suggested that this problem might not only be confined to this particular plane and said that a safety review should be conducted in other aircrafts as well. Boeing, reportedl stood behind the expensive 787 and expressed its confidence in the aircraft being safe.
