India's coal workers end strike
January 8 , 2015
India’s coal miners have ended their strike late Wednesday, January 7, following talks with the government.
The mine workers had started a five-day strike on Tuesday to protest moves by the central government to open up the industry to private players. The government has reportedly promised to take a re-look at its decision.
India is one of the world’s largest coal-producers. The strike, called by five unions, had raised fears of power cuts.
The state-run Coal India employs around 3.7 million miners.
